Københavns Kommune website kk.dk, one of Denmark’s largest websites with over 1.5 million unique visits per year, was re-launched on the 1st of September 2008.
The objective of kk.dk is defined by Københavns Kommune as: to exploit the opportunities of the Internet to offer the citizens, companies and other stakeholders a professional and user friendly entry to the Kommune.
Together with Bysted, Pentia played an active role in the process that led up to this goal being realized. Through a series of workshops, it was possible for Bysted to come up with a proposal for the design and information architecture.
Based on the material from Bysted, it was possible for Pentia and the Kommune to define acceptance criteria for the website. These acceptance criteria were used to agree expectations and ensure a common understanding of what should be developed prior to the development phase.
By following this process, it was not necessary to make changes to the solution following the development phase. If changes were to be made at this point, they would demand far greater resources than the changes made in the design phase.
The Kommune considered the 10,000 pages of the various websites with a “fresh set of eyes”. This led to, among other things, the addition of a subject front page, where different information for a certain subject has been collected in a more interesting and visual way than earlier. The information has been structured and grouped – and to a higher degree there is more room, so the images contribute more to the text.
kk.dk – a single point of access
One of the main requirements for the new website was that there should be an easy “electronic“ entrance to the Kommune. As a result, all the administrations websites are now under kk.dk, so there is one single point of entry to the Kommune.
Easier for the handicapped
The new website has been designed to make it easier for the handicapped, which are dependent on different computer programs to find information on the net. Behind the websites pretty exterior, there are many rules and processes that ensure accessibility is high.

- The major focus on agreeing the acceptance criteria for the solution up front has resulted in almost no need for changes or corrections since it went online.
